Good to know. Your watch needs Wi-Fi or cellular, the way it does when the iPhone is far away. In Low Power Mode the watch turns those off, and alerts pause until it’s back to normal.

Good to know. This direction works over Bluetooth, so the watch must be within about 10 meters of the iPhone. Typed replies aren’t possible, because iPhone only shares an alert’s built-in actions. A Wear OS watch needs an Android phone once for its first setup.

3 Steps to Connect

  1. Install both apps

    KeepMyWatch on the Android phone, and on the watch from its own App Store.

  2. Scan the code

    The watch shows a code. The phone scans it, and the two share a key no one else has.

  3. Allow alerts

    Android asks once to let KeepMyWatch read your notifications. Then they start arriving.

    KeepMyWatch from Google Play on your Wear OS watch.

  2. Pair with the iPhone

    The watch finds your iPhone over Bluetooth. Accept the pairing request on the iPhone.

  3. Allow notifications

    iPhone asks once whether to share notifications with the watch. Choose Allow.

Each alert is locked on your phone with a 256-bit key, and only your watch holds that key. Our relay passes along data it can’t read, and keeps an alert your watch missed for one hour at most. We keep no copy of what your alerts say.

Alerts travel straight from your iPhone to your watch over an encrypted Bluetooth link. They never reach our servers, so there is nothing for us to keep.

Questions

Do I need to keep my iPhone?

No. After the switch you don’t need it. KeepMyWatch installs from the App Store on the watch, and the watch keeps the setup it already has. You’d only need an iPhone again to set up a new or reset watch.

Why does my watch need Wi-Fi or cellular?

Alerts come from your Android phone through the internet, so the watch must be online. A cellular watch works anywhere; a Wi-Fi watch works on networks it already knows.

Why can’t I type replies?

iPhone shares alerts with watches through a Bluetooth service that offers each alert’s built-in actions, such as accept or decline. It doesn’t allow typed replies for other makers’ watches.

Do I need to keep an Android phone?

No. KeepMyWatch installs straight from Google Play on the watch, and after that the watch works with your iPhone alone. An Android phone is needed only once, to activate a brand-new watch.

Can anyone read my alerts?

No. Each alert is locked on your phone and only your watch has the key. We can’t read it, and neither can anyone along the way.

Can anyone read my alerts?

No. They go straight from your iPhone to your watch over encrypted Bluetooth and never reach our servers.

What happens to my data?

Your alerts are never stored where we can read them. The app keeps a short list of recent alert titles on your own device so you can see what was sent.
