App privacy policy

This covers the KeepMyWatch apps: the Android phone app, the Apple Watch app and the Wear OS watch app. The sign-up on this website has its own privacy notice.

The short version

Your alerts are locked on your phone and only your watch holds the key. We can’t read them, and neither can anyone in between. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking in the apps.

Who we are

KeepMyWatch is made by Ran Bigon, an individual developer in Israel (“we”). Contact: support@keepmywatch.com.

Apple Watch with an Android phone

On your phone. With the notification access you grant in Android settings, the app reads the notifications your phone receives so it can send them to your watch. You can switch off any app. The phone keeps a list of the last 20 alert titles so you can see what was sent; it stays in the app, isn’t backed up and is removed when you uninstall. The key shared with your watch is stored encrypted with Android’s own key store.

Through our relay. Each alert is encrypted on your phone before it leaves, and passes through our relay, a small service hosted by Cloudflare, to Apple’s push service and on to your watch. For each linked phone and watch, the relay stores only:

  • a random pairing number and a scrambled (hashed) form of its access code;
  • the push addresses Apple and Google give your watch and phone;
  • app icons, encrypted so we can’t view them;
  • alerts your watch hasn’t received yet, encrypted, at most 20 and for at most one hour.

When you unlink the watch and phone, this is deleted at once. If a pairing isn’t used for 90 days, it is deleted automatically. Your IP address is used for a moment to stop abuse and isn’t stored by us; Cloudflare handles network data as our hosting provider.

Apple and Google. Apple’s push service delivers alerts to the watch, and Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers your watch’s requests to the phone (find my phone, a reply, declining a call). They see when a message is sent, its size and the device’s push address, not what it says.

Calls and quiet mode. The phone app declines a call only when you ask from the watch, and uses Android’s Do Not Disturb only while quiet mode is on.

Android watch with an iPhone

Alerts go straight from your iPhone to your watch over an encrypted Bluetooth link, after you allow it on the iPhone. Nothing passes through our servers and we receive nothing.

Payments

Purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play. We never see your card details. The stores give us sales reports, such as the country, date and amount of a purchase, under their own terms.

When you write to us

If you email us, we keep your message and address as long as we need them to help you, and delete them within 12 months after we last reply.

Legal basis and where data is processed

For visitors in the EU and UK: we process this data to provide the service you asked for, and our legitimate interest in keeping it safe from abuse. Cloudflare, Apple and Google may process it outside your country under their data protection terms.

Children

KeepMyWatch isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.

Your choices

Unlink the watch and phone to delete the relay data at once, or uninstall the apps. Write to support@keepmywatch.com with any request about your data; we act within 30 days. You may also complain to your data protection authority (in Israel: the Privacy Protection Authority).

Changes

If this policy changes, we’ll update the date below, and explain important changes in the apps.
